MSA-A Modern Standard Arabic for Adults MSA-A-ADV Advanced Certificate Self-Paced

MSA for Adults (8)

This is the second course in GoArabic's advanced stage or the 8th course of the MSA for adults' program.

Assalamu 'Alaykum Part Eight is the second course in GoArabic's advanced stage. It strengthens learners' ability to interpret, discuss, and produce sustained Modern Standard Arabic across historical, cultural, health, social, environmental, and economic domains. Across eight thematic modules and two cumulative revision modules, students engage with extended readings and authentic audio-visual materials on Islamic civilization, music, common diseases, historical turning points, social issues, climate change, unemployment, and global finance. The course expands academic and topic-based vocabulary while deepening control of derived verb meanings, the morphological scale, adjective-like forms, adverbial structures, diptotes, and advanced sentence patterns such as objects of cause and accompaniment, circumstantial clauses, specification, vocatives, and predicate fronting. It also develops a coherent sequence in Arabic rhetoric—from eloquence and the sciences of balagha to declarative and performative speech, restriction, imperatives, prohibitions, interrogation, and vocative functions. Writing progresses from description, advice, and the résumé to summarizing, article development, cohesion, and accurate hamza spelling. By the end of the course, learners are better prepared to analyze sources, compare viewpoints, explain causes and consequences, and communicate informed positions with greater accuracy, fluency, and cultural awareness.

What you'll learn

1. Understand the main ideas, supporting details, and speakers' viewpoints in extended Arabic audio and video texts on historical, social, scientific, environmental, and economic topics.
2. Read and analyze informational, historical, biographical, health-related, social, and economic texts with increasing independence.
3. Discuss complex issues, compare perspectives, explain causes and consequences, and present supported opinions in sustained spoken Arabic.
4. Use a broad range of academic and thematic vocabulary accurately across the textbook's major content areas.
5. Interpret and use the meanings of derived verb forms II–X and selected quadriliteral patterns in context.
6. Apply advanced morphological and syntactic structures, including the adjective resembling a participle, objects of cause and accompaniment, الحال, التمييز, adverbials, vocatives, diptotes, and predicate fronting.
7. Analyze rhetorical choices by distinguishing الخبر from الإنشاء and recognizing purposes such as emphasis, restriction, command, prohibition, interrogation, and vocative address.
8. Produce organized résumés, descriptions, advice texts, summaries, and short articles using cohesive devices and accurate hamza spelling.
9. Synthesize information from written and audio-visual sources by sequencing events, identifying evidence, and summarizing key ideas.
10. Interpret historical and cultural practices from informed, comparative perspectives and communicate with greater intercultural awareness.
